Redcar Rangers met at Howard Drive, Marske & carried out maintenance work on 75 metres of track, cutting back vegetation & picking up litter. A small section of track was resurfaced at the Howard Drive entrance to the track.

Seen in the photograph of Hazel Grove is our latest volunteer Ben Colley age 31. Ben works on a Free Range Forrest Poultry farm where he looks after 16,000 hens.

A Big thanks to Tracee Hall-Young and the Redcar & Cleveland council team for their help pulling out the heavy stuff including a old Wheel Barrow and a Bike!

Having recently revisited all the recent surveys on foot and bike, we have concluded that only one route is currently suitable for NCN status.

The Sustrans Redcar Rangers have finally bottomed the rubbish caused by years of fly tipping down into Hazel Grove besides the NCN1 in Saltburn by Sea where the Dene passes under the railway and bridleway in a stone arched culvert.

Its taken a year, with the last five Sustrans Volunteer work days concentrating on removing the rubbish from banks of the Dene.

The final work day in early April will see the corner of the trackside cleared of the briers and ground nettle as you turn the corner entering the Saltburn allotments, after cleared the ground is to be raked to reveal bare earth. All foliage has to be removed from this area to allow the once brier/nettle suffocated natural wild flowers to re-propagate.

Our very own Helen Chisholm has volunteered to become our Sustrans ecology Ranger.
