Fresh Air Miles Day Home
Later that day:
On Sunday 5th Sept at 10:30 Ian Swales commented, "When Phil Chisholm told me that the premier long distance cycle route for the country passed through the Redcar constituency I just had to give that section a go. It was a truly enjoyable 14 mile ride and reminded me again how lucky we are to live in such a diverse and beautiful area. The sea views of Redcar and Marske, the beauty of Kirkleatham and the Eston hills and the hidden gem of the old green railway track running all the way from Normanby to South Bank were all a real pleasure. This route can be a magnet for tourism. I hope that the Council will support Phil and his team and help to make the experience as good as possible for visitors. There's plenty of scope to tidy up the route and make it more attractive, One need is a simple campsite where cyclists could safely overnight while travelling through. I look forward to seeing cycling further develop in the area as a healthy, environmentally friendly way of getting around". Marske Brass Band Ian Swales MP with fellow riders The Redcar & Cleveland Sustrans Rangers have spent a year improving and signing the NCN1 route and through this work, its resulting publicity and an active participation by the public, Sustrans have been able to kindled an awareness within the community of the National Cycle Route No1 passage through Cleveland North Yorkshire. Moreover, a result of liaison work by Sustrans Ranger Philip Chisholm, MP Ian Swales and MP Tom Blenkinsop, the Borough Council have become aware of the immense tourist and job creation opportunities that may be derived by the NCN 1 through our Borough. The challenge now moves on to create a link from Whitby to Staithes for the NCN 1's completion and to actively challenge the community to enjoy walking and riding the many bridleways that they will find so close to where they live and work. On Saturday 4th September Marske Brass Band supported Sustrans Redcar & Cleveland Rangers in Redcar High Street, as part of our celebration for the 15th anniversary of the National Cycle Network. A big thank you to Peddlers-cycles Redcar for sponsoring the Bass Band and for supplying the Bike Doctor services for the Sunday Fresh Air Ride. The Redcar High Street collection raised £111.55 during the 90 minute Brass Band concert. Thank you to all who donated.
